"I don't know, it's just something about it... a woman can always sing the blues better than a man can." Ida Goodson |

FRIDAY NIGHT- Gates open 6 pm, close at 11 pm - Friday's event will only include
2 acts. Our region's Grandmother, Rose of Rose
and Charlie Lucas (The South Eastern NC Regions Grandparents of
the Blues), will do a short set to open the festival, as she has each
year, and will continue to do so as long as she is able.
Before you think this will be a short night...it
won't! After Rose opens Gaye Adegbalola is doing a TWO PART show!!! First
we will get to see her documentary on the History of Women in Blues
as she narrates, and then there will be a short intermission while
she gets ready to bring down the house! This year will also include an invitational blues jam on Saturday afternoon at The Cellar, 35 N. Front St. JAM Time Noon to 4:30 pm, with acts like Sarah Cole’s band, Stone Cold, and Michele and Midnight Blues, who represented the Cape Fear Blues Society in the 2006 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Expect a few surprise at the jam and some special guest performers too!
SATURDAY NIGHT'S show features no other than Blues Diva and "the toughest girl alive", Candye
Kane! Powerful woman! Powerful voice! This show will be held at one of the areas newest clubs, The Cellar, 35 N. Front St., next to the Cape Fear River, in historic downtown Wilmington,
North Carolina. This year we have an added component. WFOS has offered to come here and BROADCAST the show LIVE via cell phones! |

The National Women in Blues (NWiB) Festival in Wilmington, North Carolina, started as an idea in the Fall of 2006. WiB events up in Oregon gave reason to think it could work in the South. Women from all around the country came to play the 1st WiB Festival. That event went so well that it stirred up passion and fire in performers and audience alike , creating the need for more. Please take a quick tour of the site and learn more about this event and our mission, the artists and visit our sponsors sites |
"Someone once said no one wants to hear a woman sing the blues but if you look at history and the charts, they could not have been further from the truth." Michele Seidman Blues Singer, WiB CBW
