NATIONAL WOMEN IN BLUES FESTIVAL NEWS!

News!
This is hard to post for multiple reasons. I only want to serve the WiB and the female artists that we can give a leg up. Most of you are aware I have spent the last 3 and a half years doing this for no pay and with just a few helpers on board.

Recently I sent word that we would be going through a growth spurt of sorts with the assistance of another person in blues. Sadly, that is not going to take place.

I may be a bit too honest and some might think I should just say nothing but the person in question did not keep their word and did not complete the tasks they claimed. There have also been attacks between female artists and I simply will not stand for that.

The spirit of this thing is to serve all women in blues...not 1 or 2. I will not allow anyone to alter that or play conquer and divide. You are all aware that my posts on facebook and on myspace have never included information about my band or my music....for a reason. I did not do this for selfish reasons and I won't allow anyone to try and take over just to serve their needs. I have never plastered the fact that I run the WiB all over my own pages and will not allow anyone else to do it either.

This IS and has ALWAYS been about ALL women in blues...and as long as I can breathe....it will stay that way!

Good news though....thanks to a person who wants to remain nameless...we are talking with grant writers. Thanks to another person, we are getting in touch with someone in this area who can help us get our needed paperwork together!

So, it will be slow and steady like it was in the past. Call me a turtle if you will...but turtles have won the race before!

The National Women in Blues Festival Wilmington, N.C.:
Sept. 26-27, 2008 BY DEB HEMINGWAY

Have you ever had a good idea, but been told that no one would bother to support it? That’s what happened to Women in Blues Festival CEO and CBW (Chief Bottle Washer) Michele Seidman a few years ago. “I was told by a music representative that no one would pay to see a woman singing the blues. And here we are. . . our third year, and plans are already underway for next year’s festival,” notes Seidman. “Without the many supporters, the festival would have been a dream instead of a wonderful reality and growing sisterhood of the blues.” ....more! The National Women In Blues Festival The journey to making the National Women in Blues Festival has been interesting to say the least. I front my own blues band and had mostly male mentors so when I started going to festivals in other parts of the country I eagerly searched for women to learn from. Even at some of the biggest festivals I saw only a small hand full of women on the line up.
